About Bali Mandala
A small, personally managed retreat nestled on the beach of Northern Bali — built with love, maintained with care, and home to a remarkable community.
A sanctuary by the sea
Bali Mandala sits on the beach at Pantai Bondalem in the Tejakula region of Northern Bali — a stretch of coastline far from the tourist crowds of the south, where fishing villages, temple festivals, and wild nature still define daily life.
Founded by Gisela von Keiser, the resort was conceived as a place where guests could genuinely rest, practice, and connect — not just with Bali, but with themselves. Surrounded by tropical gardens, steps from the sea, and embedded in a warm local community, it remains exactly that.
Because the Bali Mandala is managed personally and individually, it is an inspiring place of hospitality and serenity. Off the beaten track and far away from Bali's crowded touristic spots, it welcomes single travellers and groups as well as couples and families.
The Bali Mandala family
Putu Kusuma — known to all guests as Pak Putu — was the heart and hands of Bali Mandala for over 17 years as resort manager, always welcoming guests with warmth and attentiveness they return for again and again.
Today, the resort is led by Maggie Elias and a dedicated local team, many of whom have been part of the Bali Mandala family for a decade or more. Komang Supartini (Mega), who has worked in our kitchen since 2005, is just one of many who bring an extraordinary commitment to guest happiness.
When you stay with us, you are welcomed into this community — not just a resort.
Think globally, act locally
We believe hospitality and environmental responsibility go hand in hand. Bali Mandala uses glass bottles instead of plastic, sources organic ingredients locally, uses biodegradable cleaning products, and maintains a rigorous approach to waste separation and reduction.
Our restaurant offers fresh vegetarian and vegan food alongside non-vegetarian dishes, with an emphasis on what is seasonal, local, and grown with care. We have employed members of the local Bondalem community for over two decades.
